What does a day look like: In Uganda the day starts early. Breakfast is served together with bread and tea, after which the children go to school. The older children stay in the children's home where they help with various chores. A number of children attend boarding school and are only home on weekends. When the younger children […]

In South Africa, the difference between rich and poor is very large. As a result, children and young people often turn to criminals out of boredom and hopelessness, often turning to drugs.

Soccer shoes
A poor family in Africa often does not have enough money to send their child(ren) to school. Therefore, they will soon “force” their daughters to marry early so that they are taken care of. For these young women there is no chance to learn and build on their qualities and gifts. Hope4hope in Kenya has decided to include these young women in the football process. In this way they can build on their qualities and limits and also look for and indicate them. In this way they make themselves more resilient and they have a stronger position in society. There is such great enthusiasm for it that unfortunately there is always a shortage of football boots, balls and clothing. Especially the shoes wear out quickly and playing football barefoot gives the necessary injuries. These girls are very happy with their own pair of shoes! It gives them the chance to fight, train and become stronger in the game. you see the girls liven up day by day. Sometimes they are on the field before dawn and can't wait to get started. Will you help with a new set of football boots? You have no idea how grateful they are to you!

1 Semester of school fees
Due to Covid-19, war and economic fluctuations, school costs have skyrocketed in parts of Africa. Many families cannot afford this increase. As a result, the children do not receive education and can end up in crime. Education offers the chance to get out of poverty, work on your future and give the children hope. It will also be difficult for our projects to get all the children to school. Despite the sponsorship, the school costs and the supplies they have to provide themselves have become so incredibly expensive. In addition, food and other costs have also increased, so we receive an emergency call from various projects. Take Triza for example: Triza is the 4th child of 6 children and is 14 years old. Her mother is the breadwinner since the father is out of the picture. The mother occasionally works as a cleaner or sells some food, but that is hardly enough to feed all the mouths. Triza has been receiving help from Hope4Hope since she was a little girl. Triza is smart, creative and talented soccer player. Her dream is to become a nurse to help others. For that she has to learn for a few more years. One semester costs 300.00. Who will help her make this dream come true? Of Evans: Evans is a diligent, hardworking and honest boy from a family of 5. He is an orphan. The project has supported him since he was a young boy and he has no one but the project. He grows into a determined boy who wants to be an engineer. One semester costs 300.00. Who will help Evans to make his dream come true? Finally Mwanaidi: Mwaniadi lives with her grandmother as her parents left her behind. Mwaniadi is supported from kindergarten, but the costs are too high. Mwaniadi surprises everyone with her intelligence, talent and, given her young age, very good at playing football. Mwaniaidi can also express herself fluently, which makes her ambitious as a lawyer. One semester costs 300.00. Who helps Mwanaidi to realize her dreams.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have listed a number of frequently asked questions:
Sponsorship
How can I send a letter to my sponsored child(ren)?

The easiest way is to send your letter to your sponsor child via the website.

You do that by going to My Account > My Letters to go.
There you can send your letter in 3 steps. You can view and download the submitted letter again later in My letters.

In addition to sending text, you can add (up to max) 2 photos to your letter. It is also possible to give a gift, which will be used for the children in the home of your sponsor child.

Do you (as a sponsor) not yet have a password? Then fill in the My Account login screen in the Register block your email address and click the REGISTER button. You will then soon receive a link in which you can create a (new) password.

Can I visit the orphanage of my sponsor child?

Yes, this is possible. Project Held organizes mission trips to different countries. When this will be to the children's home where you support a child, we will inform you, so that you can consider taking this journey with us to your sponsor child. If you have any questions, please email to info@projectheld.nl

How long does it take to send a written letter to my sponsored child?

The mail from the Netherlands to the children's home is collected at our office and sent at least twice a year. When a trip is planned to a children's home, the mail will be taken by a team. Your mail must then be at our office at least 1 week before departure. If your mail arrives less than a week before departure, we cannot guarantee that your mail can be shipped. We will inform sponsors in advance when a trip is planned.

If you would like to know when the mail will be sent to the orphanage of your sponsor child, please send an e-mail to info@projectheld.nl

I want to send my sponsor child a gift. Is that possible?

No, it is not possible to send a gift for a specific child. The children generally live in children's villages and children's homes. Receiving gifts can lead to mutual comparisons and jealousy and this can harm the children.

In addition, sending gifts can cause customs problems. Letters with gifts can be removed and the letter with gift will not arrive at your sponsor child. In addition, parcels have high import duties, which means that more must be paid in import duties.

Exceptions to this rule are cards, sticker sheets and photos specific to your sponsored child. Please note clearly the name and sponsor number of your sponsor child on the sheets / photos.

It is possible to give all children in a children's home something extra. For example, you can donate school supplies or a party meal if you want the children to share in your party. We do advise to do this by means of a donation, so that the goods can be purchased locally. This stimulates the local economy and is cheaper. If you want to know what specific possibilities are, please contact us at info@projectheld.nl

How long does sponsoring a child take?

The child can join the sponsorship program up to the age of 18. He or she is supported up to and including secondary school. Many children are then able to find a job and support themselves. Sponsoring stops when the child no longer actually lives within the project and can provide for itself. Some children go to college after high school; a separate student sponsorship program has been set up for them. You can read more about that below.

You will be notified when the sponsorship of your sponsor child comes to an end. We therefore ask you to continue the sponsorship for the benefit of another child, if you wish. When your sponsored child has turned 18, you will receive an extra update about your sponsored child with the progress at school and his or her plans for the future.

It is of course possible that the sponsorship ends early because the child can return to family or parent. You will of course be informed by us. It sometimes happens that the sponsorship continues in consultation with the sponsor. This is to pay for medication or to meet special needs, for example. This will of course always be in agreement with the sponsor.

My sponsor child has grown up. What now?

Your sponsored child has completed his or her schooling, has a job and is able to take care of themselves. A suitable living space outside the children's home is often sought in collaboration with the management of the children's home, so that he or she can develop further as an adult.

In some cases a child is older than 18 years, because in practice children sometimes go to school at a later age.

It is also possible that your sponsored child will be employed by the orphanage and continue to live and work there. However, there will be no more sponsorship. It is also possible that your sponsored child can learn well and is admitted to university. In consultation with the management of the home, he or she can be included in the student sponsorship program. This is a different program than the regular child sponsorship. Your sponsorship will therefore expire and will not automatically continue in a student sponsorship. Of course you will receive a message about this and you have the option to (partly) sponsor your sponsor child within the student sponsorship program or to sponsor another child.

What does my sponsored child get for the sponsorship money?

Your contribution of 31.00 euros initially provides for the primary facilities such as shelter, food, education and, if necessary, medication. When additional funds are needed, we try to raise them through project-related campaigns.

What about the children who are not sponsored?

Not all children are sponsored in every children's home. Our aim is to find a sponsor for every child. The children who do not have a sponsor receive no less than the children who do have a sponsor; the finances are divided over the children's home per project. In fact, it means that some children do or do not receive mail and there is less financial support for the children's home in total.

For the well-being of the orphanage we therefore strive to get all children sponsored, so that all basic costs are covered. Some projects also receive support from other organizations, which contributes to the other finances of the orphanage.

How do I cancel the sponsorship?

If you want to end your sponsorship, you can do so by sending an email to info@projectheld.nl. Please take into account the notice period of 2 months. We would like to know the reason for termination, in order to investigate whether we should adjust our services. You are of course free to give this reason and it will not affect the handling of the termination.

What happens to my sponsored child if I stop sponsoring?

The child can continue to live in the children's home, but there is less support for the children's home in total. Project Held will therefore immediately look for another sponsor for the child.

Does Project Held have a quality mark?

Yes, Project Held has ANBI status as part of the House of Heroes municipality; Public Benefit Institution. Your gift is therefore tax deductible.

We deliberately do not have a CBF quality mark. However, we do meet a number of important conditions for this quality mark. One of the reasons that we do not have this quality mark is the costs that are charged for this; this would significantly increase our overhead costs. We prefer to spend this money on the projects we support.

What more can I do for Project Held?

Project Held is supported by sponsors throughout the Netherlands. You can sign up for a volunteer or want to share more about Project Held within your municipality or circle, you can do this by sending an email to info@projectheld.nl

It is also possible to support Project Held with a one-time action. For example, there have been schools that have organized a sponsored walk or collection.
It is important that the children in the homes are also prayed for and also for the work that we do. If you would like to pray for them and us, we appreciate it very much. If you have any questions or ideas, please contact info@projectheld.nl or telephone: 0341-424-785
